Universe FCEV Facelift Launches with Enhanced Performance and Expanded Lineup
Prime Trim Adds 12-Meter Option for Greater Comfort
Improved Safety Features and Up to 960.4 km Range on a Single Charge
Standardized Convenience and Safety Upgrades Across All Trims
Hyundai Motor Company launched the facelift model of the Universe hydrogen electric (FCEV) bus on August 6, 2025. The improved Universe FCEV, a large bus, features an expanded lineup and enhanced performance and specifications, increasing its overall competitiveness.
Hyundai has added a new Prime trim with a length of 12 meters to the Universe FCEV, which was previously available only in a single 11.7-meter variant, thereby improving interior space and comfort.
The Prime trim comes standard with features such as a driver's air conditioner, wireless smartphone charger for the driver, ventilated driver's seat, remote cargo compartment locking system, LED reading lights, and step LED lamps, significantly enhancing convenience.
Additionally, the Universe FCEV has improved durability by minimizing component connection points through the use of an integrated motor and transmission. The application of dual motors has enhanced regenerative braking performance, minimized the sense of interruption during gear shifts, and improved driving performance.

The Universe FCEV is equipped with a powertrain that delivers a maximum motor output of 350 kW and a maximum fuel cell system output of 180 kW. It features a 48.2 kWh high-output lithium-ion battery, enabling a maximum driving range of up to 960.4 km on a single charge.
Hyundai has also significantly improved safety by applying a high-voltage battery fire five-minute delay structure to the Universe hydrogen electric bus. This structure delays external flame exposure from the battery for at least five minutes after thermal runaway occurs. Within one minute of thermal runaway, the BMS (Battery Management System) receives a signal and alerts the driver to battery overheating through a warning light, warning sound, and warning message popup.
In addition, the vehicle is equipped with a system that shuts off the hydrogen valve and stops charging and discharging of the high-voltage battery in the event of a collision, cutting off both hydrogen and high-voltage battery power to prevent secondary accidents.
On the same day, Hyundai also unveiled the 2026 model year Universe equipped with diesel and CNG powertrains. Hyundai has made the tire pressure warning system standard across all trims of the 2026 Universe. Features such as the driver's dedicated air conditioner and multifunction driver's seat, which were previously optional in the base Elegance trim, are now included as standard.
A Hyundai representative stated, "Hyundai is continuously striving to lead the hydrogen society," and added, "We ask for your interest in the newly launched 12-meter-class Universe FCEV."
