On August 4 (local time), OpenAI announced this projection, explaining that it is more than four times higher than the same period last year. This figure includes all AI product lines of ChatGPT, such as free users, Plus, Pro, Enterprise, Team, and educational versions.

OpenAI added that the average number of daily user queries has surpassed 3 billion, and that the growth rate is accelerating compared to the same period last year, when it was 2.5 times higher.

Nick Turley, Vice President of Product at OpenAI, stated, "Every day, people are learning, creating, and solving more difficult problems," emphasizing that ChatGPT is widely used for problem-solving, creation, and resolution.

As companies and educational institutions actively adopt artificial intelligence (AI) tools, the number of paid business users of ChatGPT has increased from 3 million in June to 5 million recently.

As the number of users has surged, revenue has also increased. Previously, The New York Times (NYT) reported, citing sources, that OpenAI's annual revenue this year is expected to exceed $20 billion (27.812 trillion won). Last year, OpenAI's annual recurring revenue (ARR) was about $5.5 billion, meaning revenue has quadrupled in just one year.

By the first half of this year, OpenAI's ARR reportedly surpassed $13 billion (18.0778 trillion won). ARR refers to the fixed annual revenue that a company earns repeatedly through subscription services and similar models.

Meanwhile, OpenAI recently announced that it has raised $8.3 billion (about 11 trillion won) from major investors. Dragoneer Investment Group, Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, Coatue Management, and Altimeter Capital participated in the investment. This funding is part of a $40 billion fundraising round led by SoftBank.
