On July 31, Soonchunhyang University announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the creation of an AI medical convergence industry ecosystem at the main conference room of the Gumi Electronics & Information Technology Research Institute branch. The agreement was made with the Gumi Electronics & Information Technology Research Institute (President Moon Chuyon) and Soonchunhyang University Gumi Hospital (Director Min Kyungdae), among others.
This agreement aims to establish a comprehensive cooperation system throughout the entire cycle in the fields of AI medical devices and digital healthcare. The main areas of cooperation include: discovering and supporting startups in AI medical convergence, joint research and development (R&D) and technology transfer, commercialization linked to clinical validation, training of specialized personnel, and support for global expansion.
In particular, this is expected to serve as an opportunity to actively expand the 'AI Medical Convergence Triangle Innovation Model,' which Soonchunhyang University has been leading, into the local field.
The Gumi Electronics & Information Technology Research Institute is an institution specializing in technological innovation in the fields of digital healthcare, AI, and immersive media. Through this agreement, it will play a central role in building an AI medical convergence ecosystem based on empirical validation.
President Song Byungguk stated, "This agreement aligns with the glocal university vision of Soonchunhyang University, and by linking the university's research capabilities, medical field, and technological infrastructure, it will drive the sustainable growth of the healthcare industry."
President Moon Chuyon said, "Based on our institute's technologies such as biochips, medical AI, and service robots, we will promote empirical validation and commercialization." Director Min Kyungdae added, "Through the validation and verification of AI medical devices, we will expand the role of local medical institutions."
Meanwhile, taking this agreement as an opportunity, Soonchunhyang University plans to fully operate the industry-academia-research-hospital collaboration campus (Triangle Campus) connecting Cheonan, Asan, and Naepo, and to expand it to Seoul Hospital-Pangyo (Seoul metropolitan area) and Gumi Hospital-Gumi Electronics & Information Technology Research Institute (Gyeongbuk region), thereby accelerating the establishment of a nationwide AI medical convergence platform.
