U.S. Outlet Posts Photo of Yoon with "Trump Reaches Tariff Deal with South Korea" Headline

Yoon's Photo Featured on Yahoo Finance Homepage
No Mention of South Korean President in US-Korea Tariff Negotiation Report

The American economic portal site Yahoo Finance made a mistake by featuring a photo of former President Yoon Suk-yeol as the main image on its homepage while reporting that U.S. President Donald Trump had reached a trade agreement with South Korea. The photo, which accompanied the article published at 7:38 a.m. Korean time, remained as the main image on the homepage even as of 5 p.m.

On the 30th (local time), Yahoo Finance posted an article titled "Trump Announces Trade Deal with South Korea at 15% Tariff Rate" as the top story on its homepage. However, the representative image attached to the article was not of President Trump or President Lee Jaemyung, but of former President Yoon Suk-yeol.

In the article, the outlet stated, "President Trump announced a trade agreement with South Korea," and added, "According to a post by President Trump on Truth Social, a 15% tariff will be imposed on imports from South Korea, but the United States will not be subject to any tariffs."

The article further quoted President Trump as saying, "South Korea has agreed to fully open its trade with the United States and to accept American products such as cars, trucks, and agricultural goods," and "South Korea will make an investment of $350 billion (approximately 487 trillion won) in the United States and will also purchase liquefied natural gas (LNG) and other energy products."

Neither former President Yoon nor the current President of South Korea was mentioned anywhere in the body of the article.

There have been similar mistakes. On the same day, Nick Sortor, a freelance reporter for Fox News, posted an article on X (formerly Twitter) about the tariff negotiations between South Korea and the United States, attaching a photo of former President Moon Jae-in and President Trump shaking hands in the past, which drew criticism from online users.

Meanwhile, ahead of the August 1 deadline for the South Korea-U.S. mutual tariff negotiations, South Korea agreed to lower the mutual tariff rate from the initial 25% to 15% under conditions such as investing $350 billion in the United States. The 15% tariff imposed on South Korea is the same rate as the tariffs previously agreed upon by the United States with Japan and the European Union (EU).
