Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam Companies
Practical Corporate Support Policies to Be Established
The Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority will conduct a survey to strengthen the competitiveness of the shipbuilding equipment industry.
The Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority (Commissioner Park Sungho) announced on July 29 that it will conduct an industrial status survey targeting approximately 2,000 shipbuilding equipment companies in the Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam regions by September 30. This survey aims to identify the structural characteristics of the shipbuilding equipment industry and the capabilities of companies, in order to use the findings as foundational data for future policy formulation.
The survey targets not only shipbuilding equipment manufacturers but also about 1,000 companies in the Busan and Gyeongnam regions with more than 10 regular employees. The Authority plans to simultaneously investigate corporate support needs and utilize the results to design practical, field-oriented policies.
The Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone, centered around Busan New Port, functions as a hub for imports and exports. It is the largest concentration of the shipbuilding equipment industry in Korea, with numerous related research institutes such as the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, the Korea Research Institute of Small and Medium Shipbuilding, and the Korea Marine Equipment Research Institute, as well as anchor companies.
Based on this survey, the Authority intends to collaborate with related organizations and companies to identify policy tasks and develop customized support strategies tailored to the industry's growth stage.
Commissioner Park Sungho emphasized, "The shipbuilding equipment industry is a core pillar of the regional economy," and added, "We will design support policies that reflect the voices from the field so that small and medium-sized enterprises can grow together during the shipbuilding industry's boom period."
