The Gwangju Regional Veterans Affairs Office announced on July 24 that it had visited and encouraged the 31st Infantry Division of the Army, which has been making an all-out effort to restore areas affected by heavy rain, such as the Sinan-dong area in Buk-gu, Gwangju, which suffered significant damage.
Since July 20, soldiers from the 31st Infantry Division have been deployed to the flood-damaged areas, with about 300 soldiers participating daily, even giving up their holidays. They have supported the recovery efforts in various ways, including repairing flooded homes, assisting local farms, disposing of flood-damaged waste inside homes, and collecting trash in the affected regions.
Director Kim Seokki said, "I am grateful to the soldiers who worked hard to restore the regions that suffered severe damage from the heavy rain," and added, "In particular, we will provide prompt support such as disaster relief funds to national merit recipients whose homes were flooded or who suffered other damages due to the torrential downpour, to help them return to their daily lives as quickly as possible."
