Gyeryong City to Invest 41.6 Billion KRW to Overhaul Aged Water Supply Pipes

Gyeryong City in South Chungcheong Province will carry out a large-scale water supply network maintenance project to provide citizens with safer and cleaner tap water.

The city announced on July 24 that it held a business agreement meeting for the "Aged Water Supply Network Maintenance Project" with Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water) on July 23, and will proceed with the project to ensure a stable supply of tap water.

The meeting was attended by Mayor Lee Eungwoo, K-water Geumgang Regional Headquarters Director Lee Jongsik, and Geumgang Regional Cooperation Team Leader Shin Seonghee, among others.

This project is a comprehensive infrastructure improvement initiative that includes increasing the water supply efficiency rate, leak detection and repair, maintenance of aged pipelines, establishment of a block system, and introduction of a maintenance management system.

The city plans to invest a total of 41.6 billion KRW to carry out the maintenance project over six years until 2030, and will continue with an operation and maintenance phase for four years thereafter to sustain the benefits.

The city expects that, through this project, it will be able to accurately identify the locations of water supply pipes and enable rapid restoration in the event of an accident.

As a result, citizen inconvenience caused by water outages is expected to decrease, and recurring complaints about discolored water are also anticipated to be significantly resolved.

K-water has experience with 111 aged water supply network projects nationwide, which will help ensure the stable implementation of this project.

Mayor Lee Eungwoo stated, "Based on K-water's expertise and experience, we will establish a clean and stable tap water supply system in Gyeryong City," adding, "This project will serve as a turning point for realizing water welfare and improving the quality of life for citizens."
