Supporting Young Farmers with Drone-Based Pest Control
A demonstration of drone pest control activities by the Young Farmers Agricultural Support Team was held on July 23 in Nojang-ri, Jeondong-myeon, Sejong City.
Since last year, the Agricultural Support Team has been operated to support the stable settlement of young farmers, aiming to increase their income and alleviate the labor shortage in rural areas. As part of this initiative, two drones donated by Korea Midland Power Co., Ltd. last year were deployed so that young farmers without drones could participate in rice pest control operations.
Young farmers who do not own drones can utilize drones for pest control by joining the Agricultural Support Team.
Lee Seungwon, Deputy Mayor of Economic Affairs, said, "We plan to provide opportunities for young farmers who do not own drones to settle stably in agriculture through the activities of the Agricultural Support Team. In addition to last year, we will also support young farmers in obtaining drone licenses this year and further expand the scale of drone-based pest control."
The rice pest control drone project is supported by the city and implemented by the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (Nonghyup). The Young Farmers Agricultural Support Team participated in this project and covered 105 hectares in the Jochiwon-eup and Jeondong-myeon areas last year. This year, the team plans to cover 106 hectares in Jochiwon-eup, Jeondong-myeon, and Yeonseo-myeon in July, with additional pest control scheduled for August.
