Jang Yubin's Challenge: Returning to His Former Self

Struggling in His First LIV Golf Season
Best Finish So Far: Tied for 23rd in 10 Events
Aiming for a Comeback at the UK Tournament in Rochester

Jang Yubin's slump continues.

Although high expectations followed his entry into LIV Golf this year, he has yet to recapture his previous form. He has participated in 10 LIV Golf tournaments but has not finished in the top 10 even once. His best individual result was a tie for 23rd place at the Adelaide tournament in Australia last February.

Jang Yubin is considered a hopeful leader for Korean men's golf. After sweeping major individual titles last year on the Korean Professional Golf Association (KPGA) Tour?including Player of the Year, Money Leader, and lowest scoring average?he accepted an offer from LIV Golf and stepped onto a new stage. He became the first Korean player to join LIV Golf.

He is experiencing a tough adjustment period in his first year. LIV Golf remains unfamiliar to him. His shots have been inconsistent. Among the 54 participants, he ranks near the bottom. His fairway accuracy is 52.14% (45th), greens in regulation 63.15% (tied for 42nd), putts per hole 1.70 (tied for 53rd), and scrambling 50.25% (51st). His average driving distance is 315 yards (15th).

On July 13 (local time), in the final third round of the LIV Golf Andalucia tournament at Real Club Valderrama in Cadiz, Spain, Jang Yubin recorded six bogeys and one double bogey without a single birdie. He finished 53rd with a 14-over-par total of 227 strokes. There was a staggering 22-stroke gap between him and the tournament winner, Talor Gooch of the United States, who finished at 8-under-par 205.

After reflecting and preparing, Jang Yubin will compete in the LIV Golf UK tournament, which begins on July 25 at JCB Golf and Country Club in Rochester, United Kingdom. He will be seeking a breakthrough in his 11th tournament of the year. The defending champion is Jon Rahm of Spain.
