On the 22nd, Mayor Baek held a press conference in the press room on the 4th floor of the main building of Guri City Hall, where he expressed deep regret for attending a local organization’s picnic on July 20, despite the fact that the northern Gyeonggi region was experiencing record-breaking heavy rainfall and the city was on emergency duty.
He stated, “From the early morning of July 20, Guri City entered an emergency duty system due to the heavy rainfall, and citizens were experiencing great anxiety. Attending a picnic held outside the city during such a grave time was an imprudent decision, and I sincerely bow my head in apology for this.”
Mayor Baek described his decision as “entirely my fault,” adding, “I will accept all criticism regarding this matter with a heavy heart.”
He went on to emphasize, “The top priority of city administration is the safety of our citizens. From now on, whenever a disaster situation arises, I will always be by the side of our citizens.”
Finally, Mayor Baek said, “I deeply reflect on this incident and will exercise the utmost caution to ensure that such a situation never happens again. I will do my best to restore the trust of our citizens.”
