Customized Welfare Activities through Collaboration between Community Centers and Private Organizations
Jungnang-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Ryu Gyeonggi), is spreading the power of sharing by carrying out a variety of customized welfare activities for marginalized neighbors, even amid the heat, together with local volunteer organizations and private groups.
The sponsorship ceremony of the volunteer group "Bongseonhwa" held on the 18th. Provided by Jungnang-gu.
On the 16th, the "Elderly Family-Making Hyo Dream Partnership Ceremony" was held at the Muk 1-dong Community Service Center, where 40 volunteers from the volunteer group "Jungnangmun" each formed a 2-to-1 partnership with 20 elderly residents, promising regular visits and emotional support such as checking in on their well-being. Earlier, on the 1st, the Myeonmok 3·8-dong Community Service Center, together with the volunteer club from Seoil University, also formed family partnerships with 10 elderly people living alone.
The sharing of side dishes is also ongoing. On the 16th, the Muk 1-dong Volunteer Camp, as part of the preliminary volunteer program, delivered homemade side dishes to 14 elderly people living alone and to a senior citizens' center. On the 17th, the Junghwa 1-dong Camp visited elderly households with poor living conditions to provide wallpapering and kitchen cleaning services, creating a more pleasant environment. In addition, regular support such as the delivery of side dishes and check-in phone calls continues.
The volunteer group "Bongseonhwa," comprised of moving service companies, donated 50 electric fans on the 18th to households of elderly people living alone and people with disabilities who are vulnerable to the heat. Since its formation in 2015, this group has provided free moving services and seasonal goods to low-income households every month, and has received the Seoul Volunteer Award.
The welfare council is also active. The Myeonmok 3·8-dong Happy Sharing Council delivered "Housing Safety Kits" to 50 households living in vulnerable conditions such as basements and rooftop rooms, while Myeonmok 2-dong provided 100 sets of young radish water kimchi to elderly people living alone and low-income middle-aged single-person households to support their health during the summer.
Jungnang-gu District Mayor Ryu Gyeonggi said, "Volunteer work practiced in daily life is the greatest force in creating 'My Pride, Our Jungnang,'" and added, "We will continue to actively support neighborly care and customized welfare together with residents, organizations, and the administration."
