AI Research Institute Showcases
AI Assistant, Data Generation,
and Security-Enhanced Systems at Talk Concert
Integrates Real-World Applications Such as
New Drug Development and Investment Return Prediction
LG has unveiled for the first time three application models based on its self-developed artificial intelligence (AI) model 'Exaone': a virtual assistant, a data generation platform, and a security-enhanced system. The company also presented its vision to build an Exaone AI ecosystem by applying these solutions to industrial sites.
On July 22, at the 'LG AI Talk Concert 2025' held at LG Science Park in Magok, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, the LG AI Research Institute introduced 'Chat Exaone', which assists with tasks like an AI secretary; 'Exaone Data Foundry', which rapidly generates data; and 'Exaone On-Premise', a security-focused AI system designed specifically for enterprises. This marks the first time that the LG AI Research Institute, which has previously focused on developing model performance, has presented a comprehensive ecosystem encompassing models, infrastructure, and real-world applications.
Choi Jungkyu, Head of the AI Agent Group at LG AI Research Institute, explained that 'Chat Exaone' has obtained International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certification, enabling it to handle documents related to national core technologies and making it suitable for corporate environments that require high security. He also stated, "Following the release of Exaone 4.0, we are preparing to expand the model's use to the education sector, so that everyone from elementary school students to university students can utilize it."
'Exaone Data Foundry' is an automated platform where AI independently generates the data required for learning. Its key feature is the simultaneous improvement of both data quality and productivity, which are critical for AI performance. Previously, it would take a team of 60 experts more than three months to produce high-difficulty data, but now a single person can generate such data in just one day, greatly increasing efficiency. According to demonstration results conducted by LG AI Research Institute with affiliates and national research institutions, data productivity improved by at least 1,000 times, and quality improved by an average of more than 20% compared to previous methods. 'Exaone On-Premise' is a security-specialized AI solution that can be installed on a company's internal systems and operated independently without external connections. This allows the Exaone model to be safely operated on internal servers, ensuring that sensitive information does not leave the company. It is therefore suitable for use in sectors where security is critical, such as finance, defense, and public institutions.
At the event, LG AI Research Institute also unveiled for the first time 'Exaone 4.0 VL', a multimodal AI model capable of perfectly understanding complex professional documents, images, and molecular structures. Exaone 4.0 VL outperformed 'Llama 4 Scout', a model developed by global AI company Meta, in performance comparisons.
Lee Honglak and Lim Woohyung, who were appointed as co-directors the previous day, attended the event and announced future operational policies. Director Lim stated, "Based on our self-developed foundation model, we will secure global competitiveness and apply AI to various industrial sites, building an ecosystem with both versatility and expertise together with global partners."
The LG AI Research Institute also introduced major domestic and international partners within the Exaone ecosystem and presented the potential for expanding AI-based business-to-business (B2B) business models in the future.
Baek Minkyoung, Professor at Seoul National University's Department of Biological Sciences, shared the current status of next-generation protein structure prediction models using AI. She explained, "We are building an AI model for new drug development that surpasses Google's DeepMind AlphaFold, which could become a new starting point for disease treatment." Arman Sahovic, Head of Data Platform Solutions for Asia-Pacific at the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), introduced business intelligence services utilizing Exaone. LG AI Research Institute is also preparing a service that predicts the direction of investment asset returns based on LSEG's unstructured information, such as data, news, and disclosures, and generates reports to support decision-making for global investors.
