307 Teams and Over 1,700 Athletes Gather Nationwide
Fierce Competition Begins for the Future National Representatives

The fierce competition among the nation’s most promising archers has begun in Yecheon, known as the “home of archery.”

The opening ceremony for the 52nd Korea Middle and High School Archery Federation President’s Cup National Middle and High School Archery Competition and the 51st Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister’s Cup National Middle and High School Archery Competition was held on July 18 at the Yecheon County Culture and Sports Center Gymnasium, marking the start of the major event.


The event, hosted by the Korea Middle and High School Archery Federation (President Kim Hakdong, who is also the Yecheon County Governor), brings together 307 teams and more than 1,700 athletes selected from across the country. The competition will run for ten days, concluding on July 28.


Of these, 178 teams with 900 athletes are competing in the Federation President’s Cup, while 129 teams with 806 athletes are participating in the Minister’s Cup, promising fierce matches in both tournaments.


The opening ceremony was attended by more than 600 people, including Yecheon County Governor Kim Hakdong, Korea Middle and High School Archery Federation Vice President Do Younggi, Gyeongbuk Archery Association President Byun Hyungwoo, Yecheon County Sports Association President Lee Cheolwoo, as well as other archery officials, local institution and organization leaders, athletes, and staff, creating a vibrant atmosphere.


In his opening remarks, Governor Kim Hakdong stated, “This competition is a valuable stage for young archers to showcase their skills and lay the foundation for their growth. I hope that every participant will compete with pride as a future leader of Korean archery and approach each match with fairness and their utmost effort.”


Yecheon County has thoroughly prepared for the successful hosting of this national event by maintaining the area around the venue, inspecting accommodation facilities, and deploying emergency medical personnel. In addition, the county is providing comprehensive support to ensure that all athletes can compete in the best possible environment.


Meanwhile, Yecheon is the hometown of Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Kim Jeduk. The event is drawing attention as the next generation of aspiring archers, hoping to follow in Kim Jeduk’s footsteps, are expected to shine during the tournament.
