Tutored Student Privately Since Middle School
Began Passing Exam Papers as Homeroom Teacher in High School
Secretly Broke In and Stole Papers with Parent After Resigning
Court Issues Arrest Warrants for Teacher and Parent
Scored 40 in Math, 80 in Ethics Without Stolen Exam Papers
Regarding the incident at a high school in Andong, North Gyeongsang Province, where a parent and a teacher leaked exam papers, the daughter of the parent, referred to as Student A, testified, "I knew something was wrong, but I didn't know they were stolen." According to a report by Chosun Ilbo on July 18, Student A, who had consistently ranked first in her class, scored 40 points on the math exam that was taken without the stolen test paper.
According to Chosun Ilbo, after the incident became public, the police booked Student A on July 16 and began an investigation. She is suspected of taking the exam using test papers obtained by her parent and a teacher. Previously, at around 1:20 a.m. on July 4, Student A's mother, Ms. B (48), and a temporary teacher, Ms. C (31), broke into the school's faculty office and attempted to steal the final exam papers. They were caught in the act, and although they tried to flee when the school's security system was triggered, they were apprehended by police the following day.
According to police, Student A had received private tutoring from Ms. C since 2020, when she was in middle school. After Student A entered high school, Ms. C became her homeroom teacher.
The police believe that since Ms. C became Student A's homeroom teacher in 2023, she began passing exam papers to Student A's mother, Ms. B, and are currently investigating. After Ms. C resigned, she and Ms. B continued to steal exam papers together. Each time Ms. C stole an exam paper, Ms. B transferred a fee to her. According to the police, the total amount exceeded 20 million won.
Ms. C was able to freely enter the school even after her resignation because her fingerprint was still registered in the school's security system. She is currently working as a temporary teacher at a high school in Gyeonggi Province.
However, on the exam taken on July 4 without the stolen test papers, Student A received 40 points in math and 80 points in ethics. School officials expressed disbelief, saying, "She was a student who usually got perfect scores or missed only one question by mistake." Parents reacted by questioning, "Were all her top grades so far fake?"
In response, the school convened an academic performance management committee on July 14 and decided to expel Student A. All her previous exam scores were also invalidated and recorded as zero. Ms. B is known to be a member of the school's management committee, and Student A's father is a doctor. Parents at the school commented, "Ms. B probably went too far trying to get her daughter into medical school."
Ms. B and Ms. C are currently in custody after the court recently issued arrest warrants for both.
