Gwangju City will increase the maximum allowable childcare fee at daycare centers by 5%. On the 10th, the city held a Childcare Policy Committee meeting and decided to raise the support rates for childcare fees for children aged 0 to 2 and children with disabilities.
This decision reflects the current situation faced by daycare centers, which have been struggling due to a freeze in support rates during the first half of the year, a decrease in the number of children, and continued inflation. Specifically, the childcare fee for children aged 0 to 2 has been increased by 20,000 to 27,000 won, and the fee for children with disabilities has been raised by about 29,000 won.
The newly formed Childcare Policy Committee consists of 15 members, including childcare experts, public interest representatives, parents, daycare center directors, and teachers. The committee will review overall childcare policies for the next two years.
On July 16, Lee Youngdong, Director of the Department of Women and Family, stated, "Despite difficult financial circumstances, we decided to increase the maximum allowable fee in line with the government support rates," adding, "We expect this measure will contribute not only to stabilizing the childcare field but also to improving the welfare of infants and young children."
