Service Begins on the 21st
Up to 8 Rides Per Month at Affordable Rates
Pregnant women living in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province will soon be able to use taxis at affordable rates. On July 15, the Pyeongtaek city government announced that it will launch the 'Voucher Taxi' service for pregnant women starting from July 21.
The 'Voucher Taxi' is a program designed to support the mobility of transportation-vulnerable individuals. When a ride request is made through the Mobility Support Center for the Transportation Vulnerable, a regular taxi in operation will be dispatched to provide transportation services to eligible users.
Until now, the city has provided voucher taxis mainly for individuals with severe mobility disabilities. In April of this year, the number of voucher taxis was increased from 50 to 80, and now the service is being expanded to include pregnant women.
To use the voucher taxi, users must register in advance with the 'Pyeongtaek City Mobility Support Center for the Transportation Vulnerable.' After registration, the service can be accessed by phone call or text message request.
The service is available from the time pregnancy is confirmed until six months after childbirth, and covers the entire Pyeongtaek area. A base fare of 1,500 won applies for trips up to 10 kilometers, with an additional 100 won charged for every 5 kilometers beyond that. The city government will cover the remaining taxi fare difference.
Service hours are from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays, and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends and public holidays. Pregnant women may use the service up to eight times per month. However, unused rides cannot be carried over to the following month.
Pyeongtaek Mayor Jung Jangsun stated, "We hope that this voucher taxi service will not only help guarantee mobility rights for pregnant women, but also contribute to creating a childbirth-friendly environment. We will continue to work on improving mobility support services for the transportation vulnerable."
