Hong Nayoung of People Power Party: "Sejong Is Not a Privileged City"

Urging the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to Withdraw Relocation Ignoring Chungcheong Public Sentiment
Sejong City Council Members Begin Relay Solo Protest

Hong Nayoung of People Power Party: "Sejong Is Not a Privileged City" Hong Nayoung, a member of the People Power Party and floor leader of Sejong City Council, is holding a solo picket protest in front of the main gate of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.

The local community is strongly opposing the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' rushed relocation plan to Busan. Against this backdrop, members of the People Power Party from Sejong City Council have been holding a relay solo protest in front of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries since July 7 to convey the will of the citizens.

Following Sejong Mayor Choi Minho's solo protest, the relay continued with Deputy Chairman Kim Dongbin and Councilor Choi Wonseok on July 7, Councilors Yoon Jisung and Kim Hakseo on July 8, Floor Leader Hong Nayoung on July 9, Councilor Kim Chungsik on July 10, and Councilor Kim Gwangwoon on July 11.

Hong Nayoung, floor leader of the People Power Party in Sejong City Council, stated, "The solo protest represents the public sentiment of citizens and is being carried out to uphold the national cause of balanced national development and the completion of the administrative capital." She criticized the unilateral attempt by the Lee Jaemyung administration to relocate the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to Busan, calling it a betrayal of Sejong citizens and the Chungcheong region. She emphasized that local council members have taken to solo protests out of a strong sense of concern that this act undermines public trust in state governance and cannot be overlooked.

Hong further stated, "The relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries is not merely the transfer of a government department, but a setback for balanced national development and an act that shakes the very foundation of the administrative capital. This solo protest is only the beginning, and if the relocation is pushed forward unreasonably, it will be expanded into a pan-citizen movement." She also pledged to continue fighting alongside Sejong citizens to the very end to prevent the relocation of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
