The meeting, which began with Mayor Lee's greeting, "Please feel free to share not only your opinions or suggestions but also any other requests you may have," lasted for nearly three hours.

This meeting marked the beginning of a series of 13 relay meetings that Mayor Lee will hold with principals and parents of elementary, middle, and high schools in the city. Mayor Lee has continued this series of meetings annually since 2023.

Mayor Lee Sangil of Yongin: "I Will Listen, Observe, and Resolve Educational Issues Personally" Lee Sangil, mayor of Yongin, is explaining the city's plan to address the requests of school principals during a meeting with principals from 28 elementary schools in Cheoin District at the City Hall Vision Hall on the 8th. Mayor Lee has shown exceptional interest in the educational environment. He listens directly to the voices of principals and parents on the front lines of education and provides full support within the city's capabilities. When necessary, he visits the sites in person to identify problems and check on improvements.

Mayor Lee said, "The population of Yongin has already surpassed 1.1 million, and it is expected to reach 1.52 million by 2040, so continuous expansion of educational infrastructure is necessary. Through meetings with school principals and parent representatives, I listen to the stories and difficulties from the field, and the city is making efforts to help in areas where we can provide support."

In particular, to increase the efficiency of the meetings, Mayor Lee collects suggestions from the field in advance and has them reviewed by the relevant departments before the meeting. This is to ensure that the meetings are not just one-off events, but opportunities to find practical solutions to problems. For this meeting as well, the city received and reviewed 38 suggestions from the principals in advance.

During the meeting, Mayor Lee personally explained the detailed reviews and actions taken regarding the suggestions submitted by the principals beforehand. For additional suggestions raised on site, he instructed the relevant officials present to discuss supplementary measures.

At the meeting, Mayor Lee also shared the difficulties the city faces in improving educational conditions. He said, "The city has continuously increased its education budget, but there is still a constant shortage of funds and many sites in need of support." He added, "We are addressing these shortages by cooperating with the Office of Education or securing special grants from the Ministry of Education."

Starting with this meeting, Mayor Lee plans to continue with meetings on July 9 with elementary school principals in Giheung District, on July 10 with elementary school principals in Suji District, on July 11 and 17 with middle school principals, on July 15 with high school principals, and on July 25 with principals and teachers from special schools.

Meanwhile, the city explained that through 26 meetings held in 2023 and last year, it received 853 suggestions, of which 512, or 60%, have been addressed or are in the process of being addressed.
