Gijang-gun in Busan Encourages Health Checkups for Medical Aid Recipients

Full-Scale Launch of the "GeongangjikiGO" Project
Early Disease Detection and Addressing Healthcare Blind Spots

On July 8, Gijang-gun (Governor Jung Jongbok) announced the full-scale launch of the specialized project "GeongangjikiGO," aimed at increasing the national health checkup participation rate among Medical Aid beneficiaries.

The core of this project is to provide health checkup information to Medical Aid recipients and encourage their participation through multifaceted promotional activities. The project is designed to facilitate early detection of diseases and address healthcare blind spots among medically vulnerable groups.

This year, the county will focus its outreach on newly qualified Medical Aid recipients born in odd-numbered years and on elderly individuals in health-vulnerable groups. Intensive promotions will be conducted through mail, text messages, and phone calls. In addition, related leaflets will be distributed at various events and educational venues, and those who have not yet undergone a health checkup will be individually contacted and encouraged to participate.

The county will also closely monitor health checkup participation among Medical Aid recipients aged 65 and older, who are considered a high-risk group for chronic diseases, and will strengthen administrative efforts to reduce healthcare blind spots for disease prevention.

Jung Jongbok, Governor of Gijang-gun, stated, "A health checkup is the first step in detecting diseases early and receiving appropriate treatment," and urged, "If too many people wait until the end of the year, it may become difficult to make a reservation, so I encourage everyone to participate in the checkup as early as possible."

National health checkups for Medical Aid recipients are provided according to age group: ▲Infants and young children (from 14 days to 71 months old) receive infant health checkups; ▲those aged 20 to 64 receive general health checkups; ▲and those aged 65 and older receive life transition period health checkups.

General health checkups include chest X-rays, urine and blood tests, among others. For those aged 65 and older, the life transition period checkup also includes additional items focused on elderly diseases, such as bone density tests and cognitive function disorder tests.

All checkups are completely free of charge and can be received at any designated health checkup institution nationwide.
