Busan as a Global Maritime Hub City
Opening the Future Through Mutual Growth with the Southern Region
The Busan Institute (President: Shin Hyunseok) will jointly host the "4 Major Metropolitan Cities Research Institutes Touring Forum for Local-Led Innovation and Balanced Development" with the four major metropolitan city research institutes and Maeil Business TV at BEXCO Exhibition Hall 2 on July 10.
This forum, under the theme "The Future of Busan as a Global Maritime Hub City: Opening Together with the Southern Region," will serve as a venue to discuss practical policy cooperation measures to enhance the implementation of the 21st presidential election pledges and promote mutual development in the southern region.
In particular, the forum will focus on presenting a future blueprint for Busan, identifying policy agendas to support this vision, strengthening local-led innovation capabilities, and developing strategies to achieve balanced regional development.
The forum will begin with opening remarks by Shin Hyunseok, President of the Busan Institute, followed by congratulatory speeches from Park Hyungjoon, Mayor of Busan, and Jung Incheol, CEO of Maeil Business TV. Kangrae Ma, Professor at Chung-Ang University and President of the Korean Regional Studies Association, will deliver the keynote presentation on "Local-Led Innovation and Balanced Development."
For the main topic presentation, Shin Hyunseok will personally present "Strategies for Promoting the Future Development of Busan and the Southern Region as a 2050 Global Maritime Hub City." He plans to outline strategies for future growth axes, including port logistics innovation, advancement of the maritime industry, and the establishment of inter-city cluster linkages in the southern region.
The comprehensive discussion will be chaired by Jung Jucheol, Professor of Urban Engineering at Pusan National University, who will lead an in-depth dialogue from various perspectives, including regional policy, balanced development, and cooperative growth. Panelists will include Kim Youngjin, President of the Daejeon Sejong Research Institute; Park Yangho, President of the Daegu Policy Institute; Choi Chiguk, President of the Gwangju Research Institute; Jung Hyunmin, Executive Vice Chairman of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and Choi Sanghee, Vice President of the Korea Maritime Institute.
Shin Hyunseok, President of the Busan Institute, stated, "Strategic cooperation with major cities in the southern region is essential for Busan to leap forward as a global maritime hub city," adding, "Through this forum, we will strengthen the foundation for cooperation among research institutes so that local-led national balanced development policies can yield tangible results."
