Song Eonseok: "Lee Administration Cabinet a Comprehensive Crime Package... Concern Over 'Bed Hearings'"

"'Prosecutorial Manipulation Response TF' Is an Attempt at President Lee's Self-Pardon"

On July 8, Song Eonseok, interim leader and floor leader of the People Power Party, criticized the confirmation hearings for ministerial nominees in the Lee Jaemyung administration, stating, "I suspect that the cabinet assembled by President Lee is nothing short of a comprehensive package of crimes."

At a party strategy meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Song listed the allegations raised so far, saying, "Even before the formal hearings have begun, the illegal suspicions that have already surfaced have pushed the public's anger beyond its limits." He enumerated allegations such as violations of the Farmland Act, thesis duplication and plagiarism of students' dissertations, evasion of gift taxes, double-dipping on salaries, and real estate speculation.

Song also pointed out, "Suspicions of stock investments made during the COVID-19 period or real estate gap investments using their children directly contradict the Lee Jaemyung administration's pledges to revitalize the capital market and its policy of restricting mortgage loans."

He also raised his voice regarding the ministerial nominees' refusal to submit materials or their passive explanations. Song said, "The nominees are taking the attitude that they only need to stall for a day at the confirmation hearing, saying they will explain everything then," and expressed concern, "It appears likely that the Democratic Party will turn the hearing into a 'bed hearing,' unconditionally shielding and defending the nominees." In response, he announced plans to launch a National Verification Team for Personnel Disasters in the Lee Jaemyung Administration to conduct thorough vetting.

Regarding the "Prosecutorial Manipulation Indictment Response Task Force (TF)" launched by the Democratic Party on July 7, Song criticized it as "President Lee Jaemyung's self-pardon TF."

Song stated, "They have defined the illegal remittance to North Korea case, considered the worst of President Lee Jaemyung's legal risks, as a prosecutorial fabrication," and pointed out, "This is an attempt to overturn a Supreme Court ruling to save the president, and an unconstitutional undermining of the judiciary."

He added, "In short, their reaction can only be seen as a guilty conscience," and said, "If President Lee were truly innocent, there would be no need to go to such lengths to overturn a Supreme Court decision."
