The Fifth Star of the Taste Project: Sweet Potato
Completed with Mozzarella Cheese and Jalapeno Mayo Sauce
McDonald's Korea announced on July 8 that it will launch two new products under its "Taste of Korea" project?the Iksan Sweet Potato Mozzarella Burger and Muffin?on July 10.
The new menu items feature domestically grown sweet potatoes cultivated in Iksan, North Jeolla Province. According to McDonald's, "The burger uses a croquette made by mashing sweet potatoes grown in the Iksan plains, known for their loess soil and abundant sunlight, and combines it with savory mozzarella cheese to deliver both sweetness and a crispy texture." The company added, "A jalapeno mayo sauce is included to provide a clean and spicy finish."
The Iksan Sweet Potato Mozzarella Muffin, which will be available as part of the McMorning menu, combines tomato and sweet potato croquette for a light and enjoyable breakfast option. This is the third McMorning product to be released as part of the Taste of Korea project.
With the launch of these new products, McDonald's has purchased approximately 200 tons of sweet potatoes, marking the largest volume in the project's history. A regional donation campaign, jointly planned with Iksan City, also stands out. From July 10 to 31, customers who access the Hometown Love Donation website via QR codes on special tray mats and receipts and donate more than 100,000 won will receive a "burger set coupon" as a gift.
The advertising campaign also carries a message of mutual growth. A real farmer from Iksan who grows sweet potatoes participated as a model and narrated his own story, adding authenticity to the campaign.
A McDonald's Korea representative stated, "This new product is a menu item that combines high-quality local agricultural products with McDonald's expertise," and added, "We will continue to expand collaboration with local farms to contribute to the regional economy."
Meanwhile, since 2021, McDonald's Korea has been running the "Taste of Korea" project, which seeks to deliver new flavors and promote regional coexistence through new products made with domestic ingredients, receiving positive feedback. Previous annual releases include the Changnyeong Garlic Burger (2021), Boseong Green Pork Burger (2022), Jindo Green Onion Cream Croquette Burger (2023), and Jinju Chili Cream Cheese Burger (2024).
