Suncheon City, South Jeolla Province (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu), announced on July 4 that it is accepting applications until the 10th for companies wishing to participate in the "Suncheon IP Creation and Production Support Project," which provides support for cultural content startups and production costs utilizing new intellectual property (IP).

This project is being promoted in response to feedback from content companies in the field. It aims to help local content companies establish themselves and grow stably by supporting costs required in the early stages of creation and production in the animation and webtoon sectors.

The city expects that, through this initiative, relocated and local companies will be able to settle stably and inject vitality into the stagnant local economy.

Eligible applicants are small content companies with 20 or fewer employees located in Suncheon. Companies and sole proprietors planning to move into Suncheon are also eligible to apply. The total support budget is 770 million won, with up to 110 million won available for the animation sector and up to 50 million won for the webtoon sector.

The project consists of a first-round proposal evaluation and a second-round final product evaluation. In the first round, three animation projects and five webtoon projects will be selected, receiving 30 million won and 10 million won each, respectively. In the second round, three outstanding works from each sector will be selected for additional support of 80 million won for animation and 40 million won for webtoons. This outstanding content award will also include the seven animation teams and six webtoon teams selected during the previous application period (May 28 to June 17).

An official from the city's Culture and Arts Department stated, "The core incentive that companies need most is initial cost support for pilot production," adding, "We hope this project will help Suncheon content companies develop self-sustaining IPs and serve as a stepping stone for them to enter broader markets."
