Five new public daycare centers, including newly established public daycare centers and those converted to public status, have opened in Seongbuk District, Seoul. Seongbuk District announced on the 3rd that opening ceremonies were held on June 27 and 30 for five new public and public-converted daycare centers located within large residential complexes with more than 500 households.

The newly opened daycare centers include four public daycare centers within the Jangwi New Town Jangwi Jairedient complex and the Seokgwan Doosan Daycare Center in Seokgwan-dong. Although the birth rate remains low, the opening of these daycare centers was prompted by an increase in new apartment residents due to large-scale redevelopment projects.

Seongbuk District finalized the establishment and conversion of these daycare centers through the second round of Seoul Metropolitan Government's public daycare center expansion project review last year. As a result, a full-fledged public daycare system has been in operation since March of this year. The district expects that the opening of these daycare centers will significantly strengthen the public nature of early childhood care and greatly help address the demand for childcare in the region.

Seungro Lee, mayor of Seongbuk District, stated, "We have been continuously working to expand public daycare centers to create an environment where children can grow up happily and parents can entrust their children with peace of mind," adding, "We will continue to expand childcare services that residents can truly feel in their daily lives."
