On July 2, Gwangju City and the Gwangju Free Economic Zone Authority hosted a "fam tour" by inviting 12 participants, including promising artificial intelligence (AI) companies, expatriate entrepreneurs, and economic and investment advisory committee members from the Seoul metropolitan area, to experience the key industries and cultural infrastructure of the Gwangju region.
This fam tour was organized to introduce Gwangju's industrial competitiveness on site and to build trust among potential investors. The participants visited major industrial hubs and cultural landmarks in Gwangju, thereby deepening their understanding of the local investment environment.
The tour included visits to Gwangju Global Motors (GGM), the Gwangju Future Automobile Mobility Promotion Institute, the Advanced District 3 Promotion Center, the AI cluster complex (National AI Data Center), and the National Asia Culture Center (ACC), where participants directly witnessed the region's industrial and cultural convergence competitiveness.
At GGM, participants saw firsthand how the win-win job model has been implemented in actual production facilities. At the Gwangju Future Automobile Mobility Promotion Institute, they received an explanation of Gwangju’s future automobile strategy, which is supported by research and development (R&D), testing, and certification infrastructure.
At the Gwangju Urban Corporation Advanced District 3 Promotion Center, the Gwangju Free Economic Zone Authority introduced the vision and investment environment of both Gwangju and the Free Economic Zone, while Gwangju Urban Corporation provided an update on the development status of Advanced District 3. In addition, a representative from the Artificial Intelligence Industry Convergence Project Group (AICA) explained the establishment of the local AI ecosystem and future plans.
At the AI cluster complex, participants toured the construction site of the nation’s largest National AI Data Center and the demonstration and startup buildings, experiencing firsthand why Gwangju is considered an optimal location for AI-based startups and industrialization. At the ACC, they viewed cultural and artistic content, including an exhibition by media artist Lee Lee-nam, and shared the perception of Gwangju as "a city where industry and culture harmonize."
Through this fam tour, Gwangju City and the Gwangju Free Economic Zone Authority provided participants with tailored explanations for each sector and promoted the building of networks with companies. They plan to maintain ongoing communication after the event and link it to tangible investment attraction.
Sun Seokgi, Commissioner of the Gwangju Free Economic Zone Authority, said, "It was a meaningful opportunity to directly introduce Gwangju’s competitiveness, which is growing as the optimal location for AI and future automobile industries, to business leaders. We will continue to attract investment based on cooperation with companies."
Choi Taejo, Director of the Artificial Intelligence Industry Office, stated, "We expect that on-site experiences will have a positive impact on practical investment decisions. We will further expand Gwangju’s investment appeal by pursuing company-specific strategies from multiple perspectives."
