Foreign Investors Continue to Sell
Market Consolidates After Recent Sharp Gains
Both the KOSPI and KOSDAQ closed slightly lower, taking a breather after a recent sharp rally.
On July 2, the KOSPI ended at 3,075.06, down 0.47% from the previous day. During the session, it fell nearly 2% to the 3,032 level, but rebounded to close in the 3,070 range.
By investor type, foreign investors recorded a net selling of 418.4 billion won. Individuals and institutions posted net purchases of 391.5 billion won and 56.0 billion won, respectively.
Most sectors declined. The electric and gas sector saw the steepest drop at 4.16%. Other sectors with declines of over 1% included securities (-1.94%), construction (-1.72%), finance (-1.52%), insurance (-1.22%), and machinery and equipment (-1.17%). On the other hand, food, beverage and tobacco (2.17%), pharmaceuticals (1.80%), and metals (1.19%) rose.
Among the top 10 stocks by market capitalization, KB Financial Group (1.9%), LG Energy Solution (1.5%), Hyundai Motor (1.4%), Kia (1.1%), Samsung Electronics (1.0%), and Samsung Biologics (0.4%) rose. NAVER (-4.0%), Hanwha Aerospace (-2.5%), SK Hynix (-2.0%), and Doosan Enerbility (-1.9%) declined.
The KOSDAQ also showed a similar trend, closing at 782.17, down 0.19% from the previous day. During the session, it fell as much as 1.76% to 769.91, but rebounded to remain in the 780 range.
As in the KOSPI market, only individuals and institutions recorded net purchases of 189.8 billion won and 22.3 billion won, respectively. Foreign investors recorded a net selling of 204.2 billion won.
Many sectors in the KOSDAQ market also declined. The most notable drops were in distribution (-2.73%), entertainment and culture (-1.53%), and non-metallic minerals (-1.06%). In contrast, general services (3.07%) and textiles and apparel (1.64%) rose.
Among the top 10 KOSDAQ stocks by market capitalization, LIG ChemBio (6.3%) and Alteogen (5.2%) posted particularly strong gains. Classys (0.9%), EcoPro BM (0.6%), EcoPro (0.3%), and Hugel (0.1%) also rose slightly. Rainbow Robotics (-1.6%), Peptron (-1.6%), PharmaResearch (-0.8%), and HLB (-0.6%) fell.
