In June, ahead of the rainy season, the city carried out a proactive inspection of sewage facilities in major roadside areas, residential neighborhoods, and commercial districts that were designated as frequent flooding zones in 2023.

The facilities inspected included sewer manholes and stormwater inlets. In sections where any abnormalities were detected, maintenance was immediately completed through dredging and cleaning operations.

In July, the city plans to expand the scope of inspections to focus on vulnerable areas in preparation for possible heavy rainfall. The city will also further strengthen intensive monitoring of sewage facilities and emergency response systems.

Additionally, to encourage voluntary participation from citizens, the city has produced promotional materials on "how to manage stormwater inlets" and is distributing them through local administrative welfare centers in towns and districts. The city is also providing guidance and encouragement to promote citizen reporting.

Hwang Unho, head of the Yeongju City Environmental Project Office, stated, "We will minimize urban flooding damage through regular inspections and prompt maintenance of sewage facilities," and added, "We hope that citizens will also actively participate in managing and reporting on stormwater inlets."
