The development of the 'Gwangmyeong Siheung Public Housing District' and the 'Uiwang Gunpo Ansan Public Housing District' in Gyeonggi Province is expected to gain momentum as the project implementers have finalized their respective equity shares.

On July 2, Gyeonggi Province announced that it had signed a basic agreement in writing on June 30 with Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), Gyeonggi Urban Innovation Corporation (GH), Gwangmyeong Urban Corporation, and Siheung Urban Corporation for the development of the Gwangmyeong Siheung Public Housing District. In addition, on July 1, the province signed a similar agreement in writing with LH, GH, Gunpo Urban Corporation, and Ansan Urban Corporation for the development of the Uiwang Gunpo Ansan Public Housing District.

The basic agreements signed this time focus on clarifying the equity shares and responsibilities of each project implementer and establishing an efficient and cooperative project management system. The equity distribution for the Gwangmyeong Siheung District is as follows: LH 79.4%, GH 20%, Gwangmyeong Urban Corporation 0.1%, and Siheung Urban Corporation 0.5%. The Gwangmyeong Siheung Public Housing District is a major public-led new town project in the Seoul metropolitan area, covering 12.7 square kilometers in Gwangmyeong and Siheung. The project will supply 67,000 housing units to accommodate approximately 167,500 residents.

The Uiwang Gunpo Ansan Public Housing District is a public-led new town project covering 5.98 square kilometers in Uiwang, Gunpo, and Ansan. It will provide 40,818 housing units for approximately 98,000 residents.

Both projects are being promoted to stabilize the housing market and provide high-quality residential spaces to end users without homes.

Gyeonggi Province plans to leverage the locational advantages of the Gwangmyeong Siheung and Uiwang Gunpo Ansan Public Housing Districts, which are adjacent to Seoul, to develop self-sustaining cities that integrate transportation, housing, and jobs. The province will focus not only on serving as a hub for balanced development in the southwestern metropolitan area but also on stabilizing housing supply for genuine end users. In addition, Gyeonggi Province intends to create a differentiated urban environment by incorporating its specialized strategies.

Gyeonggi Province will also support the necessary permits and approvals for both projects and operate a working-level consultative body to facilitate efficient collaboration among joint project implementers.

The working-level consultative body will not only coordinate on various current issues related to the public housing districts but also review the introduction of 'jobs + housing + leisure functions' that reflect Gyeonggi Province's urban philosophy. Additionally, the body will discuss the implementation of the 'AIP (Aging In Place)' concept, which enables seniors to age in their own homes, as well as strategies for achieving a 'net zero city' aimed at carbon neutrality.

Son Imseong, Director of Urban Housing at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Through this agreement, Gyeonggi Province will faithfully fulfill its key coordinating roles, including permits and administrative support," adding, "We will do our utmost to create exemplary self-sustaining cities that set a benchmark for housing supply in the metropolitan area and enhance the quality of life for our residents through inter-agency cooperation."
