Strengthening Senior-Focused Features and Providing One-Stop Services
On July 2, Yeongdeungpo District in Seoul will hold an opening ceremony for the Senior Happiness Center, a specialized facility that integrates senior care functions, and will begin full-scale operations.
The Senior Happiness Center (9, Dangsan-ro 29-gil) is a complex care space with a total floor area of 2,819 square meters, spanning from two basement levels to six above-ground floors. It is an expanded and relocated version of the former Dangsan Public Daycare Center, with enhanced senior-focused features. By integrating various senior care facilities into a single space, the center provides systematic and efficient services.
The center houses the Dangsan 3-ga Senior Citizens’ Lounge and Our Neighborhood Childcare Center on the first floor, the Dangsan Public Daycare Center on the second floor, Dementia Relief Centers on the third, fourth, and sixth floors, and the Public Dementia-Specialized Daycare Center on the fifth floor. The first-floor senior lounge offers lunch five days a week and supports healthy leisure and communication through programs such as yoga classes. The daycare centers on the second and fifth floors serve as day and night care facilities for seniors who have received long-term care grades due to dementia or other geriatric illnesses, helping to reduce the burden of home care and supporting caregivers in maintaining their economic activities and daily lives.
The Dementia Relief Center provides early dementia screening, prevention, awareness improvement, and customized programs for families of dementia patients. With the opening of this center, the district plans to accelerate the establishment of a "lifelong care system" that encompasses all aspects of seniors’ lives, including leisure, rest, early dementia management, and long-term care protection.
The opening ceremony, scheduled for 10 a.m. on July 2, will be attended by District Mayor Choi Hokwon, district council members, facility users, and local residents. The event will include a progress report, unveiling ceremony, and facility tour.
Choi Hokwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, stated, “The Senior Happiness Center is an integrated space where all seniors can come together,” adding, “We will create a care system that supports a stable later life for seniors and cares for the well-being of their families as well.”
