Victims State
"We Were Not Acquainted"
The suspect who died after committing a stabbing rampage at a house in Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul, was found to have lived in the same building as the victims.
At a regular press briefing held on the 30th, Park Hyunsoo, Acting Commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, stated, "The suspect and the victims lived in the same building," and added, "The victims have testified that they were not acquainted with the suspect."
According to the police, at around 8:30 p.m. on the 29th, the suspect allegedly wielded a weapon and injured male victims in their 20s and 30s at a multi-family residence in Sillim-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul. The suspect rang the victims' doorbells and, when the doors were opened, committed the attack. The victims sustained minor injuries to their shoulders and ankles, respectively.
The suspect had been living in the building for some time, while the victims had reportedly moved in only recently. When the police, responding to the report, entered the rooftop of the building to conduct a search, the suspect jumped and died.
A police official stated, "The victims are expressing confusion as to why they were targeted," and added, "Even though the case will be closed due to the suspect's death and the resulting lack of prosecutorial authority, we intend to continue the necessary investigation into the circumstances of the incident."
