LG Display Begins Mass Production of 'Brightest Ever' OLED Monitor Panels: "More Vivid Gaming Visuals"

Top Levels in Color Reproduction, Refresh Rate, and Response Time
Perfect Black Even in Daylight, Superior Image Quality
Mass Production of Gaming Panels to Begin in the Second Half of the Year

LG Display has succeeded in mass-producing the brightest OLED (organic light-emitting diode) monitor panel currently available. The company has now reached the highest levels in color reproduction, refresh rate, and response time?the core elements of gaming monitor image quality.

On June 27, LG Display announced that it will begin full-scale mass production of its "27-inch OLED monitor panel," which achieves a peak brightness of 1,500 nits by applying the "Primary RGB Tandem" technology, the core of its 4th generation OLED technology. The company also revealed that it has successfully developed a 540Hz product, setting a new record for OLED monitor refresh rates, and plans to launch it soon.

The 27-inch OLED monitor panel utilizes LG Display's proprietary "Primary RGB Tandem" technology to achieve a maximum brightness of 1,500 nits (based on APL 1.5%) and a refresh rate of 280Hz, the highest among OLED monitors. This technology is the world’s first to stack the three primary colors of light (red, green, and blue) as four independent layers. By increasing brightness, the panel maximizes contrast, resulting in more vivid and accurate images.

Color reproduction has also reached the highest level among existing OLEDs, achieving 99.5%. This makes it suitable for professional content creation environments such as film production and color grading.

The panel also eliminates mirror reflection, which significantly affects the gaming experience. By improving the internal structure of the panel and applying a special film, LG Display has blocked 99% of internal and external light reflections. This ensures perfect image quality without color distortion, even under 500 lux lighting conditions, equivalent to a brightly lit living room during the day. The panel has received certifications for perfect black, perfect color consistency, and 100% color fidelity from global certification bodies such as UL Solutions and Intertek.

LG Display has also succeeded in developing the world’s first OLED monitor panel that simultaneously supports a 540Hz high refresh rate and QHD (Quad High Definition) resolution. A 540Hz refresh rate means the screen refreshes 540 times per second, delivering overwhelming performance in fast-paced games such as first-person shooters (FPS) and racing games.

Until now, when the refresh rate exceeded 500Hz, image quality dropped significantly, earning it the nickname "the wall of impossibility." LG Display overcame this limitation by independently developing and applying a new algorithm, successfully maintaining image quality even at high refresh rates. The 540Hz refresh rate is the highest among current gaming OLED monitors.

By applying DFR (Dynamic Frequency and Resolution) technology, which LG Display independently developed last year, the panel can achieve up to 720Hz in HD resolution. DFR technology allows users to select their preferred refresh rate mode.

LG Display’s OLED monitor panel boasts a best-in-class response time of 0.03ms. This is a significant improvement over LCD (liquid crystal display) monitors, which have a maximum response time of only 1.0ms.

Response time refers to the time it takes for a pixel to change from one color to another. Even with a high refresh rate, a low response time can result in ghosting or blurred edges from previous frames. A high response time is essential for fully experiencing fast-paced games.

With a 0.03ms response time and a 540Hz high refresh rate, LG Display’s OLED monitor panel meets the highest "ClearMR 21,000" standard set by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA). A higher ClearMR rating means better image quality, greater clarity, and less ghosting.

As major global set manufacturers have completed their product reviews, LG Display plans to begin mass production of 540Hz OLED gaming panels in the second half of this year.

Lee Hyunwoo, head of LG Display’s Large Display Business Division, stated, "OLED monitors are rapidly increasing their market share due to perfect black and fast response times?features fundamentally impossible for LCD monitors. By leading with our 'Triple Crown' OLED monitors, based on LG Display’s unique and unrivaled technology, we will deliver differentiated value to customers and strengthen our market dominance."
