Laying the Foundation for a Culture of Active Administration in the Public Sector
On June 25, Hapcheon County in South Gyeongsang Province announced that it will introduce a new "Active Administration Mileage System" to encourage voluntary active administration among public officials and to foster a culture of proactive governance within the organization.
The "Active Administration Mileage System" awards mileage points to public officials based on their active administrative performance, and provides incentives according to the accumulated scores. The purpose of this system is to offer small but immediate rewards for active administrative efforts, thereby motivating public officials and spreading a culture of proactive administration.
Mileage points are awarded to public officials at grade 6 or below based on detailed criteria, including: active administrative work, regulatory improvement and proposals for active administration, use of active administration support systems, winning in competitions, recommendations by county residents for active administration, and participation and promotion of active administration. Depending on the accumulated points, tangible incentives such as Hapcheon Love Gift Certificates and one-day reward leave are provided as rewards.
Kim Yuncheol, the county governor, stated, "Active administration is the fundamental direction of administration for the benefit of our residents," and added, "Through the operation of the Active Administration Mileage System, we will further encourage voluntary and creative work by our public officials."
