Goheung County in South Jeolla Province, led by County Governor Kong Youngmin, has taken active steps to become a new hub for the space defense industry, leveraging its local space and aerospace infrastructure.

The symposium brought together more than 100 experts in the defense, space, and aerospace sectors, representatives from local space and aerospace companies, and university officials. They discussed strategies to build a region-specific defense industry ecosystem related to space and aerospace, centered around Goheung County's existing infrastructure.

Key presentations included the Jeonnam Defense Industry Promotion Plan (by Jeonnam Technopark) and Defense Space Quality Management Measures (by the Defense Agency for Technology and Quality). The symposium also featured real-world cases of local companies such as Paru Electronics and WithPS entering the defense industry. In the subsequent panel discussion, defense expert Dr. Yang Hyunsang served as moderator, leading an in-depth discussion on the future of the defense space and aerospace industry and Jeonnam's roles and participation strategies in line with government policy.

An official from the county stated, "Space and aerospace and the defense industry are fields that can be strongly integrated both technologically and industrially. Goheung has both the infrastructure and policy environment to realize this integration," adding, "With this symposium as a starting point, we will make tangible progress in building a defense industry ecosystem centered on space and aerospace, and will focus efforts on attracting related companies."

Meanwhile, the county is continuously expanding its space industry infrastructure around the Naro Space Center, the only space launch site in Korea. This includes the National Space Launch Vehicle Industrial Complex, the Launch Vehicle Technology Commercialization Center, a private launch site, a private combustion test site, and a Complex Security Space Center.
