Dokkaebi Theater Troupe to Present Play on Ahn Byungha on June 21-22 'Police cannot point guns at citizens' poster.

The theater troupe Dokkaebi announced on June 16 that it will present the play "Police Cannot Point Guns at Citizens" on June 21 and 22.

This play was produced with the support of the Gwangju Cultural Foundation as part of the Gwangju Cultural Heritage Content Production Support Project. "Police Cannot Point Guns at Citizens" tells the story of Ahn Byungha, the chief superintendent who was responsible for maintaining public order in Gwangju and South Jeolla Province during the 5·18 Democratization Movement.

The play follows reporter Choi, who leads a monotonous daily life. While covering Ahn Byungha, Choi travels back in time and learns about the moments during the 5·18 Democratization Movement when Ahn Byungha refused the order to open fire in order to protect the citizens of Gwangju and the police. Through this process, the play depicts Choi reflecting on how to live his own life in the present.

This performance is based on "Ahn Byungha Pyeongjeon" by writer Lee Jaeui. The play is written and directed by Choi Yonggyu, with Kim Yesung playing the role of Ahn Byungha, Kim Suok as Jeon Imsun, Song Minjong as reporter Choi, and a total of 12 actors participating.

The play will be performed twice at Seobitmaru Arts Center in Seo-gu, Gwangju?at 7:00 p.m. on June 21 and at 3:00 p.m. on June 22.

Director Choi Yonggyu said, "Through this performance, I hope people will remember the spirit of serving the people that Ahn Byungha demonstrated in protecting the citizens of Gwangju during the 5·18 Democratization Movement, and remember the hidden heroes."

Meanwhile, Dokkaebi continues its creative activities under the slogan "Fun and laughter for the whole family." Recently, the troupe has been producing a series of performances themed on the 5·18 Democratization Movement, including human rights puppet shows, children's plays about democracy and peace, and plays for adults.
