On June 16, the Chungnam Provincial Council announced that the 'Ordinance on Supporting the Safety and Improvement of Working Conditions for Delivery Workers in Chungcheongnam-do,' sponsored by Assemblyman Lee Yonguk (Seosan 2, People Power Party), had passed the review of the Planning and Economy Committee during the 359th regular session.

This ordinance was established to provide an institutional framework for creating a safer and more pleasant working environment for delivery workers, as the demand for delivery services has surged since the COVID-19 pandemic, bringing the risks of safety accidents and working condition issues for delivery workers to the forefront of social concerns.

The ordinance stipulates the following: ▲the responsibilities of the governor to improve the safety and working conditions of delivery workers; ▲the responsibilities of delivery businesses and workers; ▲conducting surveys on working conditions and establishing and implementing improvement plans; ▲support for safety equipment and protective gear; and ▲promotion of support projects within the budget, such as providing and improving rest areas.

Assemblyman Lee stated, "Delivery workers carry out their duties every day on complex and dangerous roads, exposing themselves to various accidents," and added, "If this ordinance is implemented, it will greatly help protect their safety and improve their working conditions."

He further said, "I hope that this ordinance will raise social awareness of the importance of the delivery industry and serve as an opportunity to strengthen social responsibility for delivery workers."
