The Gwangsan District Council in Gwangju is establishing an institutional foundation for a parliamentary activity experience program aimed at fostering democratic citizenship among children and adolescents.

Gwangsan District Council in Gwangju Establishes Foundation for Children's and Youth Parliament Operation Myeongsuk Kim, Gwangsan District Councilor, Gwangju.

According to the Gwangsan District Council on June 14, the "Ordinance on the Operation of the Children's and Youth Parliament of the Gwangsan District Council," proposed by Myeongsuk Kim, Gwangsan District Councilor (Progressive Party, representing Bia-dong, Singa-dong, and Sinchang-dong), passed the review of the Steering Committee at the 297th regular session the previous day. The ordinance provides a systematic framework for operation and support, enabling children under 14 and adolescents aged 14 or older but under 18 to directly experience parliamentary activities.

The ordinance stipulates that the chairperson will establish an annual operation plan and includes practical support measures such as the use of facilities like the main assembly hall and the provision of transportation convenience. It also aims to enhance the quality of the program by collecting participants' activity reviews and suggestions.

Kim stated, "I hope that through the process of directly experiencing and learning about local councils, children and adolescents will come to understand democracy and grow into democratic citizens," and added, "We will actively support the future generation so they can become key members of a healthy community."
