Creating a Safe Meal Service Environment
Through Inspections of Facilities Vulnerable to Food Poisoning
Sungsan-gu, Changwon Special City in South Gyeongsang Province will conduct a special inspection for the prevention of food poisoning at meal service facilities, including social welfare institutions, starting June 16.
This inspection is being carried out as a preemptive measure to establish a safe meal service environment during a period when the risk of food poisoning increases due to rising summer temperatures. The inspection targets meal service facilities within social welfare institutions and postpartum care centers used by vulnerable groups, including the elderly, people with disabilities, children, and postpartum mothers.
The main inspection items include: ▲ compliance with expiration dates and storage standards (refrigeration and freezing) for food ingredients and other items; ▲ hygiene and cleanliness management in kitchens (including raw material storage rooms, processing rooms, and washing rooms); ▲ management of washing and sterilization of food utensils within cooking facilities; ▲ compliance with personal hygiene management, such as health checkups; and ▲ storage of preserved food samples. In addition, chefs and staff will receive education on food poisoning prevention guidelines for meal preparation, cooking, and serving during the summer.
Kim Su-yun, Head of the Culture and Sanitation Division, stated, "Summer is a time when rising temperatures promote the proliferation of microorganisms, increasing the likelihood of food poisoning. Through this inspection, we will thoroughly manage the meal service environments at social welfare institutions and postpartum care centers to do our utmost to protect vulnerable groups and ensure food safety."
