The Presidential Office announced on the 12th that it had requested the Democratic Party and the Cho Kuk Innovation Party to recommend candidates for the so-called three major special prosecutors.

Kang Yoo Jung, spokesperson for the Presidential Office, stated at a briefing held that day, "Yesterday, the Presidential Office received a request from National Assembly Speaker Woo Won Shik to appoint special prosecutors for the so-called three special prosecutor bills: the Special Prosecutor Act on Insurrection, the Kim Keon Hee Special Prosecutor Act, and the Chae Sang Byung Special Prosecutor Act. On the same day, we requested both the Democratic Party and the Cho Kuk Innovation Party to each recommend a candidate for the appointment of special prosecutors to investigate these cases."

The three major special prosecutor bills passed the National Assembly plenary session on June 9, just six days after the change of administration, and were approved at the Cabinet meeting presided over by President Lee the following day. Under the Special Prosecutor Act, President Lee was required to request candidate recommendations by June 13. Afterward, the Democratic Party and the Cho Kuk Innovation Party will each recommend one candidate. Once the candidates are determined, President Lee must appoint one of them as special prosecutor within three days.
