Recruitment for "My Favorite Hangeul Letter" Project Participants in Sejong City
Collaborative Artwork with Mr Doodle Planned for the 2025 Hangeul International Pre-Biennale
A special opportunity has been arranged to create a Korean alphabet-themed artwork together with Mr Doodle, the world-renowned British artist.
Sejong City announced that it is recruiting participants for the "My Favorite Hangeul Letter" project until June 22. This project was initiated to invite Mr Doodle as the first participating artist at the "2025 Hangeul International Pre-Biennale," which opens on September 1, and to create a work that widely promotes the spirit of Hangeul’s creation together with citizens.
Mr Doodle plans to complete an artwork that reflects the spatial characteristics and symbolism of Sejong City, based on the meaning and form of the "My Favorite Hangeul Letter" submissions from citizens. In particular, this work will be completed as a live drawing performance during the biennale exhibition period, providing an opportunity to directly experience the aesthetic potential of Hangeul and the meaning of creation.
Kim Ryeosu, Director of Culture, Sports and Tourism at Sejong City, stated, "We are working hard to ensure the successful hosting of the upcoming 2025 Hangeul International Pre-Biennale," and added, "With the participation of citizens, we expect this event to add even greater significance to our city as a hub of Hangeul culture."
Park Youngguk, CEO of the Culture and Tourism Foundation, said, "Hangeul is an open tool that anyone can use together, and it is a script that can inspire unlimited creativity," and added, "The Hangeul International Pre-Biennale will become a living creative space where artists and citizens together interpret Hangeul as a language of art."
Meanwhile, the 2025 Hangeul International Pre-Biennale will be held from September 1 to October 12 at urban regeneration spaces such as the Jochiwon 1927 Art Center and Saniljesa, as a rehearsal event to build momentum ahead of the first Hangeul Biennale scheduled for 2027.
