Gyeonggi Province to Select "Good Apartments" Again This Year Following Last Year

Gyeonggi Province will select "Good Apartments" to promote a culture of mutual consideration and respect between residents and management staff in apartment complexes.

On June 11, Gyeonggi Province announced that since last year, it has been holding a contest to select Good Apartments in order to spread a community culture based on respect and consideration between residents and management staff such as security guards and cleaners. The initiative also aims to create a residential environment that satisfies both residents and managers.

Eligible participants are apartment complexes in the province that are subject to mandatory management. They are divided into three groups according to the size of the complex: ▲ 150 to less than 500 households ▲ 500 to less than 1,000 households ▲ 1,000 households or more.

The evaluation criteria consist of four categories: working environment, job security, human rights protection, and co-prosperity activities. In the first round, the top complex in each group is recommended by each city or county, and Gyeonggi Province conducts the final evaluation among these candidates. Ultimately, the top complex in each group, for a total of three, will be selected as the final "Good Apartments."

In particular, efforts to eliminate short-term contracts for management staff, the installation of rest facilities, and participation in co-prosperity activities will be evaluated as key best practices.

Gyeonggi Province will award a "Good Apartment" certification plaque and a citation from the governor to the selected complexes, and will exempt them from provincial planning audits for three years. In addition, when selecting complexes for projects to improve the residential environment of aging apartments, the selected complexes will be given priority support by their respective cities or counties.

Hong Ilyoung, head of the Apartment Housing Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, "Although unfair treatment of management staff in apartment complexes has decreased significantly, we will continue our efforts to ensure that a culture of mutual respect and consideration between residents and management staff takes root."
