Improving Living Conditions for the Families of the Late Park Eungyang and Yoon Gijung
"We will do our utmost to ensure that the families of independence activists who dedicated themselves to the nation receive the respect they deserve."
On June 10, Park Wansu, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, visited the home of Park Gilseop, grandson of the late independence activist Park Eungyang, who lives in Geochang County, and pledged to improve the treatment of independence activists' families.
The late Park Eungyang led the March 22, 1919 independence movement at the marketplace in Sancheong-eup, Sancheong County, Gyeongnam Province, and died after being severely injured during a violent crackdown by Japanese forces. In 1997, he was posthumously awarded the Order of Merit for National Foundation, Patriotic Medal.

On this day, Governor Park participated in improving the living environment of Park Gilseop's home together with Koo Inmo, Mayor of Geochang County, Park Jueon, Provincial Assembly Member, and Park Hyungin, Head of the Gyeongnam Branch of the Liberation Association.
They worked directly, sweating as they repapered the walls and replaced the flooring in the home.
Earlier, on May 29, Gyeongnam Province and Gyeongnam Development Corporation signed an agreement for the 'Dure House Project' and decided to jointly promote annual improvements to the living environments of vulnerable groups.
This year, the project targets the residences of two families of independence activists. With the cooperation of the Gyeongnam Branch of the Liberation Association, households among the families of independence activists facing financial difficulties were selected.
Following the home of Park Gilseop, grandson of the late Park Eungyang, Gyeongnam Province also plans to improve the living conditions of Lee Seungsun, maternal grandson of the late Yoon Gijung.
The late Yoon Gijung participated in the April 3, 1919 independence movement at Jeongsan Market in Cheongyang County, Chungnam Province. He was arrested by Japanese police, sentenced to 90 lashes, and died after enduring severe hardship. In 2004, he was awarded a Presidential Citation.
Governor Park emphasized, "We will actively support improvements to the living environments of national merit recipients, which are directly linked to their health, so that they can enjoy better living conditions."
