The Education Committee of the Daejeon City Council announced that, during the 287th 1st Regular Session's first meeting, the committee passed as originally proposed the "Ordinance on Support for Migrant Women Victims of Violence in Daejeon," which was initiated by Council Member Gyeongja An (People Power Party, Proportional Representation).


The ordinance includes provisions such as: defining the mayor's responsibilities regarding migrant women victims of violence; establishing and implementing action plans and conducting fact-finding surveys; operating counseling centers and shelters; providing interpretation, translation, legal, and medical support; and building a public-private cooperation system for victim recovery.


Council Member Gyeongja An stated, "Migrant women exposed to violence, such as domestic violence and sexual violence, remain in blind spots where it is difficult to receive appropriate support even after experiencing harm." She added, "It is the responsibility of the community to ensure that these women are safely protected and can become self-reliant members of the local society."


She continued, "Through this ordinance, we will establish a practical and sustainable support system so that migrant women can enjoy a stable life."


The ordinance is scheduled to be voted on at the 3rd plenary session of the 287th regular session on June 19.
