The Jeonnam Smoking Cessation Support Center at Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital announced on June 10 that it recently held a joint campaign in recognition of the 38th World No Tobacco Day (May 31) and Oral Health Day (June 9).
The campaign, which took place at the five-day market in Yeongam County, was attended by approximately 500 residents of Jeonnam Province. The event was organized to encourage local residents to quit smoking and to raise awareness about the importance of preventing and managing oral diseases and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. Related organizations, including the Health and Welfare Bureau of Jeonnam Province, the Yeongam County Public Health Center, and the Jeonnam Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease Prevention and Management Support Group, participated and jointly conducted the campaign.
At the campaign site, promotional leaflets were distributed to promote smoking cessation and healthy lifestyles, and a health booth was operated. The booth offered a variety of experience and counseling programs, including blood pressure, blood sugar, carbon monoxide, and atrial fibrillation measurements, one-on-one customized smoking cessation counseling, and health quizzes, which received a positive response. A street campaign was also held in the market to highlight the importance of quitting smoking.
Choi Yuri, Director of the Jeonnam Smoking Cessation Support Center and Professor of Family Medicine at Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital, stated, "We will continue to work in cooperation with Jeonnam Province and various related organizations to promote the health of local residents and improve the smoking cessation rate."
