Citizens Make Use of Used Sidewalk Blocks
for Various Purposes Such as Building Farm Shelters and Flower Beds
"How much do you need?"
As Boryeong City in South Chungcheong Province began offering used sidewalk blocks free of charge, citizens have been making numerous inquiries by phone. This resource recycling policy is receiving a highly positive response from the public.
Since April, Boryeong City has been working to create a safer pedestrian environment by utilizing reusable sidewalk blocks collected during sidewalk replacement projects conducted from April to June to repair neglected roads. The city has moved away from the conventional method of treating these blocks as waste requiring separate disposal, instead adopting an eco-friendly approach of resource recycling.
The city is providing some of the usable sidewalk blocks to citizens free of charge, which has resulted in both reduced waste disposal costs and improved public welfare.
Citizens are making use of the used sidewalk blocks for a variety of purposes, such as building small farm shelters and creating flower beds.
A city official stated, "By offering used sidewalk blocks free of charge, we are achieving both budget savings and environmental improvements," and added, "We will continue to expand sustainable resource circulation policies to provide tangible benefits to our citizens."
