Withdrawal from Lawmakers' and Regional Committee Chairs' Chat Rooms
A Preemptive Move Amid Concerns Over Interference in Party Affairs
President Lee Jae Myung has reportedly left a group chat on Telegram where Democratic Party of Korea lawmakers had gathered, following his election victory.
According to multiple ruling party officials on June 7, President Lee posted a message in the lawmakers' group chat at around 8 a.m. the previous day, saying, "I guess I should leave here as well. Hope to see you often. Let's build a new Republic of Korea," and then exited the chat.
This move appears to be out of consideration for concerns that his continued presence in the group chat could be seen as interfering in party affairs. President Lee automatically lost his parliamentary seat upon the start of his presidential term.
Previously, on June 5, President Lee also left a group chat of about 200 Democratic Party regional committee chairs after expressing his gratitude for their support in the presidential election.
