Gyeonggi Fire Department Pays Tribute at Fallen Firefighters’ Gravesites on Memorial Day, June 5-6

In commemoration of Memorial Day (the 70th anniversary) on June 6, the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters is holding memorial ceremonies on June 5 and 6 at various locations, including the National Daejeon Memorial Cemetery and the National Seoul Memorial Cemetery, to honor firefighters who died in the line of duty.


On June 5, about 50 people, including staff from the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters and frontline fire stations, visited the Daejeon Memorial Cemetery. They paid tribute at the gravesites of fallen firefighters, observed a moment of silence, offered incense, and laid flowers to honor their spirit of sacrifice.


On the same day, memorial ceremonies were also held at the National Seoul Memorial Cemetery and at the Firefighters’ Memorial Tower located within the Gyeonggi Fire Academy.

On June 6, Memorial Day itself, the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters will hold additional memorial ceremonies in front of the bust of the late Fire Commander Lee Byeongon at the Hangdamdo Service Area and in front of the statue of fallen firefighters at Seolbong Park in Icheon.


Kim Jaebyung, head of the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters, stated, "The noble firefighting spirit of the deceased is the force that has kept Gyeonggi-do safe," adding, "We will always keep their spirit of sacrifice deep in our hearts and do our utmost to ensure the safety of our residents."
