Kim Seokpil, acting mayor of Cheonan, stated on June 4, "K-Culture is not just a trend, but a sustainable global cultural industry that resonates with the world."
He emphasized this point at the opening ceremony of the Cheonan K-Culture Expo, which is being held at the Independence Hall area through June 8.
He went on to say, "The expo serves as a platform for global communication through various cultural contents such as Hangeul, beauty, games, and webtoons," adding, "The city will continue to strengthen its cultural foundation and do its best to foster a creative ecosystem."
Kim Hyungseok, director of the Independence Hall, remarked, "The foundation of today's Korean Wave lies in the sacrifices of our ancestors who preserved our national culture during the Japanese colonial era," and expressed hope that "this expo, held in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of liberation, will become a venue for cultural exchange dedicated to world peace and prosperity."
Kim Taeheum, governor of South Chungcheong Province, said, "I personally witness how deeply K-Culture has permeated the daily lives of people around the world every time I travel abroad," and promised, "South Chungcheong Province will actively support the expo so that it can grow into a world-class cultural exposition."
The opening ceremony featured a variety of performances, including congratulatory acts by Sung Sikyung, Lee Mujin, and H1-KEY, a drone light show utilizing 1,000 drones, and a themed performance combining traditional Korean music and contemporary dance.
Throughout the event, visitors can experience a wide range of content in exhibition halls, including K-pop, food, beauty, Hangeul, webtoons, video content, and games.
In addition, various stage events and citizen participation programs will be held, such as a Hanbok fashion show, a drama OST concert, and a children's musical.
To enhance convenience for visitors, the city is operating free shuttle and circulator buses, has set up a "food zone" featuring local restaurants and food trucks, and prepared an outdoor dining area with a total capacity of 1,600 people.
