Disbandment Ceremony of the Democratic Party's Election Campaign Committee Held on June 4
Yoon Yeojoon: "The Nation Can Recover After Three Years of Damage"
Conservative Figures Joining the Committee Emphasize National Unity
The Democratic Party of Korea's election campaign committee, which secured victory in the 21st presidential election, held its disbandment ceremony in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Yoon Yeojoon, the committee's chief campaign chair, stated, "With President Lee Jaemyung's efficient leadership, I am confident that the country can be brought back on track in a short period of time."
At the committee's disbandment ceremony held at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, on June 4, Chair Yoon said, "Over the past three years, the country has been so severely damaged that I believed it would be impossible to recover with ordinary efficient leadership. However, I believe President Lee can make it possible," he conveyed.
He continued, "I first met President Lee when he was mayor of Seongnam at a Samgyetang restaurant in Bundang, and since then, we have met several times. As someone who has reflected on leadership in countries around the world, I was convinced that if someone like him took responsibility for running the country, Korea would change in a short time. Now, he has finally become president."
He added, "This cannot be achieved by President Lee alone. If everyone here actively supports him, we can certainly bring about change. I sincerely ask that you all support President Lee."
Park Chandae, another chief campaign chair, celebrated the presidential victory by singing "The Impossible Dream," a signature song from the musical Man of La Mancha. He said, "Let us move forward together with President Lee to achieve the true dream of Korea."
Conservative figures who joined the campaign committee emphasized the significance of unity. Lee Seokyeon, co-campaign chair, said, "When a new government is launched, there is always talk of regulatory reform and integration, but I believe this time it will truly happen. If not, I will personally take the lead and hold the government accountable before the people."
Lee Inki, also a co-campaign chair, remarked, "For decades, I viewed the world from within the 40% of the population, but after crossing over and seeing things from here, everything looks completely different. People around me warned that I would be cast aside if I stayed here, but upon reflection, I realized there was tremendous distrust, division, and confrontation among ourselves."
He continued, "At that time, I said, 'It's okay to be cast aside. Someone has to take on the task of national unity.' Although our mission ends today, Co-Chair Lee Seokyeon and I will do our utmost for national unity, regardless of our positions, even in our private capacities."
There were also voices reflecting on the election results. Lee Eonju, co-campaign chair, pointed out the committee's weak support in TK (Daegu·Gyeongbuk) and PK (Busan·Gyeongnam), saying, "Although even the conservative base in the Seoul metropolitan area has changed a lot, it seems we need to make more efforts to bring change to Yeongnam."
The disbandment ceremony was held in a bright and positive atmosphere. It concluded with all campaign committee members and aides in attendance offering a 90-degree bow to the public as a gesture of gratitude.
