On June 4, Donggu District in Gwangju announced that it is holding an event to provide up to 10,000 KRW per person as an experience fee to the first 100 users among customers of 32 solo dining restaurants in the area.
This event, which runs until July 4, requires participants to actively promote solo dining restaurants by posting reviews of their experiences at Donggu solo dining restaurants on their SNS accounts and submitting an application for the support fee. Applications for the support fee will be accepted until July 13.
Donggu has the highest proportion of single-person households (43.6%) among the five autonomous districts of Gwangju. In response to the rapid increase in the number of 'Honbapjok' (people who dine alone), Donggu is currently operating 32 solo dining restaurants where individuals can enjoy a comfortable and healthy meal alone.
Recently, seven local restaurants?Gwangdong Jinssi, Mashita, Daejeop, Alchan Gimbap, Donmyeongdang, Gyerim-dong Janchijip, and Mibundang Dongmyeong Branch?were newly designated as the "4th Class Donggu Solo Dining Restaurants" and signed agreements with the district. Donggu promised close cooperation with these seven selected restaurants and delivered official designation plaques.
Im Taek, head of Donggu District, said, "We expect that the experience fee support event for solo dining restaurants will help both small business owners and users of solo dining restaurants in Donggu thrive together." He added, "In line with the changing times marked by an increase in single-person households, we will continue to provide various forms of support for solo dining restaurants in the future."
