Reports of Voter Name Duplication Filed in Gwanak and Seocho Districts
Total of 81 Election-Related Reports Filed to 112 from Seoul Polling Stations
On June 3, the main voting day for the 21st presidential election, a voter reported to the police after discovering that a vote had already been cast under her name at a polling station.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, the complainant, a woman in her 70s, visited a polling station at Dangjung Elementary School in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, at around 1:12 p.m. While verifying her personal information, she was told that a vote had already been cast under her name, prompting her to call 112 and file a report.
The National Election Commission confirmed that there were voters with the same name registered in the same district. The commission plans to investigate whether a crime occurred by checking if the person with the same name actually voted, and will file a complaint if necessary.
Similar reports were filed in both Gwanak-gu and Seocho-gu, with one case each received in these districts.
In Seongbuk-gu, a report was received alleging that pre-printed and pre-stamped ballots were being distributed. At around 2:18 p.m., a complainant who visited the polling station at the Seongbuk-gu Childcare Support Center reported that, after verifying their personal information, ballots were not being printed and distributed on the spot, but instead, pre-printed and pre-stamped ballots were being handed out.
A total of six such reports were received, including cases in Gangseo-gu and Gangdong-gu.
In response, the National Election Commission explained, "According to Article 157, Paragraph 2 of the Public Official Election Act, the polling station manager may pre-stamp up to 100 ballots in advance before distributing them."
Meanwhile, including these incidents, a total of 81 reports have been filed to 112 from polling stations across Seoul as of now.
